Safety Precautions During Drilling Operations

The core of drilling operation safety lies in equipment inspection and personnel operating procedures. Before each operation, the drilling rig must be thoroughly inspected to ensure that the wire rope, brakes, clutch, and all connecting bolts are intact and secure. Simultaneously, the work area must be cleared, removing any irrelevant debris, ensuring the site is level, and checking for obstructions such as power lines. Personnel must wear safety helmets, work clothes, and protective shoes; long hair should be tucked into the helmet—this is the basic line of defense against accidents.

During equipment operation, operating procedures must be strictly followed. Adjusting, cleaning, or repairing rotating or moving parts while the machine is running is strictly prohibited. All personnel must maintain a safe distance from the drill pipe and other moving parts. When raising or lowering the drill string, movements must be smooth; personnel are strictly prohibited from standing or passing underneath. Pay close attention to equipment sounds and instruments. If any abnormal noises, severe vibrations, or sudden pressure changes are detected, the machine must be stopped immediately for inspection; do not attempt to continue operation.

Site management is just as important as other potential risks. Ensure electrical wiring is up-to-date and properly insulated to prevent electrical leakage. Store and use flammable materials such as fuel and lubricating oil correctly; smoking is strictly prohibited in the work area. When lifting heavy objects, a designated person must direct the operation. Upon completion of work or shift handover, all operating handles should be placed in safe positions and power should be disconnected. The team should cultivate a habit of mutual reminders and supervision regarding safety, conduct regular safety drills, and ensure that every member understands the emergency response procedures, maintaining safety awareness throughout the entire operation.
