Routine Maintenance and Fault Prevention for Drilling Rigs: Effective Methods to Extend Equipment Lifespan

The key to keeping drilling rigs in good condition lies in developing a habit of "daily inspection and regular maintenance." Before starting work each day, spend some time walking around the machine, looking, touching, and listening. Check for loose screws, leaks in oil pipes and joints, and proper belt tension and cracks. After starting, let the machine idle for a while, listening carefully to ensure the engine or motor sounds smooth and observing the pressure, temperature, and other indicators on the dashboard. These simple checks can help you identify many small problems early, preventing them from developing into major malfunctions.

Correct operation during daily use is itself the best maintenance. Use the machine reasonably according to its capacity, avoiding prolonged overloading. During drilling, pay attention to changes in formation hardness and adjust drilling pressure and speed accordingly to reduce abnormal impacts on the drill pipe and drill bit. After each shutdown, promptly clean the drill pipe and machine surface of mud and dust, keeping the equipment clean, especially around the radiator, which helps maintain a good operating temperature.

Schedule a more comprehensive maintenance check weekly or monthly. Replace or top up engine oil, hydraulic oil, and grease as required by the instruction manual. Carefully inspect critical components, such as the wear of the wire rope, the reliability of the braking system, and the integrity of the drill pipe threads. Establish a standardized process for inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment, and document it. This will not only significantly reduce the risk of sudden failures and extend the lifespan of each component, but also allow you to quickly identify the cause of problems when they arise, ensuring more efficient and economical drilling operations.
