Preparatory Work Required from the Client During Drilling Operations

Preparatory Work Required from the Client During Drilling Operations

Drilling operations require close collaboration between the client (owner) and the construction company. The client's preparation in advance will effectively ensure smooth construction, prevent disputes, and contribute to obtaining a satisfactory water well.

I. Key Preparations and Communication Before Construction

Site Survey and Well Location Confirmation:  Work with the construction company representative to determine the wellhead location. Considerations include:

Distance from pollution sources: At least 30 meters away from septic tanks, sewage ditches, livestock pens, etc.

Convenience for water extraction and future maintenance.

Avoiding obstacles: Avoid underground pipelines, cables, and overhead high-voltage lines.

Providing Site and Access Guarantees:

Site clearance: Clear all debris, crops, trees, etc., from the planned well location and the equipment access and work areas.

Ensure unobstructed access: Guarantee roads with sufficient width and load-bearing capacity for large equipment such as drilling rigs and trucks. Reinforcement or widening may be necessary in advance.

Provide a solid and level work surface.

Addressing Water and Power Supply:

Electricity: Confirm the nearest power source and ensure sufficient capacity (usually 380V industrial power). Coordinate power connection in advance if needed.

Water source: Provide the necessary water source for well flushing and mud preparation during construction, and clearly identify the water intake point.

II. Coordination and Supervision During Construction

Designate a Contact Person: Appoint a family member familiar with the situation as the sole contact person to communicate with the construction company and avoid conflicting instructions.

On-site Witnessing at Key Stages:  Be present during the following key procedures whenever possible:

Material delivery: Verify that well pipes, filter materials, and other materials meet specifications.

Pipe installation, gravel packing, and sealing: This is crucial for well quality; being present allows you to supervise whether key steps are performed correctly.

Well flushing and water testing: Personally confirm that the well flushing is thorough (clear water) and that the water yield meets requirements.

Maintain open communication: Respond promptly to reasonable requests from the construction company (such as temporary land use, auxiliary coordination, etc.) and work together to resolve unexpected problems.

III. Safety and Neighbor Relations Management

Set up Safety Warnings: Assist or supervise the construction company in setting up clear safety warning lines and signs in the work area to prevent unauthorized personnel (especially children) and livestock from entering. Inform your neighbors:  Inform potentially affected neighbors in advance about the construction plan, duration, and potential noise and temporary road closures, to gain their understanding and avoid disputes.

IV. Procedures and Fee Preparation

Verify the completeness of procedures: Ensure that the construction company has obtained all necessary construction permits or approvals (if required) to avoid work stoppages due to procedural issues.

Clarify costs and payment methods: Clearly define the total price, payment schedule (installment payments based on progress are recommended), and scope of work in the contract or agreement to avoid ambiguous terms.

Summary: Proactive Collaboration, Clear Communication, Focus on Key Aspects

The client's core role is that of "guarantor" and "supervisor." Preparation focuses on clearing obstacles for construction (site, utilities, access), controlling key quality checkpoints during construction (materials, core processes, acceptance), and maintaining good safety and neighborly relations. Thorough preparation and active cooperation are the solid foundation for ensuring the efficient, smooth, and successful completion of the drilling project.
